Got any plans July 14-15?


Sure that’s almost 10 months away and most of you (me) may not even know what is going on this weekend, but Running Bestie Sue and I have BIG FAT PLANS for this summer (even if we can’t see past today). And you can SO get in on them!

[Insert drumroll here] We are looking for 3 lady teammates for the Back on My Feet 20in24 Relay Challenge! Ta da and yay!

The Back on My Feet weekend is a series for 4 races that run concurrently:
Lone Ranger Ultra Marathon – This ultra marathon allows solo participants 24 hours to see how many miles they can run 
20in24 Relay ChallengePhiladelphia’s only 24-hour relay race where teams of five choose one of four levels ranging from 8.4 miles to 33.6 per teammate
Midnight Madness Run Held at midnight runners charge the 8.4 mile loop emblazoned with glow bracelets, reflective gear, and Christmas lights
Pajama Loop RunStarting at 6:00 AM, participants will run the 8.4-mile loop in their pajamas (no nudie sleepers allowed!)

This past July Sue and I did the Midnight Madness run and had a total blast! It was so much fun and we were very touched by the cause it supports. This year we decided we need to go big(ger). Since neither of us are ultra material (yet…?) we zeroed in on the relay. Relays are badass but a total good time and this will be no exception. We’re going to have the coolest team name, some cool matchy matchy shirts, and a cool tent filled with cool things to eat and cool things to drink but mostly cool things to drink because it is going to be very hot out. It’s going to be so cool!

1. You do not need to be fast.
2. You do need to be committed.
3. You must not be annoying.
4. You must be committed.
5. You must laugh at all of our jokes.
6. You must be committed.
7. You must be able to complete 3 8.4-mile loops in 24 hours.
8. You must be committed.
9. You may not wear running gear that Sue and I deem “stupid.”
10. You must be committed.
11. You may not invade Suzanne’s personal space (imagine, if you will, a sphere around Suzanne at all times). This rule probably applies to Sue too (tee hee, that rhymes!).
12. You must be committed.

Why put “You must be committed” so many times? Because this race cost some major bucks and I don’t want to shell out all of my wampum and magic beans to have 1 or more runners punk out at the last minute. I can’t afford wishy-washy.

If this mildly interests you, you have time to think about it and ask lots of not-stupid questions. Registration opens in late-October but I think we are going to hold out until after the New Year until seriously assembling a team and paying entry fees. This race is limited to 30 teams. If the distance scares you, think about it like this–you will run a loop about every 6 hours and that’s like nothing really. Heck, it will hardly be like running at all with all that laughing out our jokes and drinking cool drinks and stuff.

When we are all done, we can chug beer and hobble run up the Rocky Steps and shout things like “Whoooo!” and “We’re awesome!” and “I’m the king of the world!” and “San Dimas High School football rules!”

      Who needs a Garmin when you have crabby friends with strict relay rules like me?

          As much as I’d love to one-up Greg, I don’t think it is going to happen. Yesterday I sent Brian to the store and said “Get the cheapest beer they sell, I don’t care, but just get beer.” So yeah, a Garmin’s a little steep for me right now.
